Welcome to Mum-Kini Blog

When asked, why would I start a blog when the world wide web is filled with blogs, experts, coaches, etc.? What would I offer that is different from what has already been done? My answer always was “because it gave myself and many others who seek that path a voice.” A voice for the voiceless, a place of belonging, and a supportive community

I have been so privileged and blessed to have met women who have inspired me on my life journey. with the first woman I set my eyes on, my mother, amazing sisters, wonderful friends, and inspiring celebrities (not a statement that I am declaring that I know any celebrities; let’s just say I am inspired by them).

My first encounter and a continual experience is getting to watch and learn from my own mother. born as the third child of a family of five. She lost both her oldest brothers through senseless crime. As a teenager, all she had left were her aging parents. She knew she wanted to have a large family and gave birth to seven children. She had six wonderful, well-behaved (at times, of course) daughters and a loyal son.

My siblings were the first friends I had. Our friendship and solidarity are unmatched. We have known each other through a lot and continue to do so in our older days.

This brings me to my friends. Because of my closeness to my sisters and our experiences, my friends are like sisters to me. I have adopted each and every one of them into my family, whether they know it or not. I truly believe my friends are extensions of my personality. It brings me so much joy to interact with them.

I am what they call a millennial, so it shouldn’t surprise anyone how many of us millenials are inspired by celebrities and their lives. I am inspired by the humor and silliness of Marilyn Monroe. The self-confidence in Angela Bassett, The professional grace of Meryl Streep, The determination of Viola Davis, The strength of Regina King, The philanthropist of Angelina Jolie, The self-acceptance of Jennifer Aniston; Gosh, so many excellent examples, so little time. I want you to get the idea that these women are more than their beauty to me. They are all intricates pieces of fabrics woven for me to admired and strive to become.

If you’ve reached down here, I want to thank you. Not only have you spent some time reading this blog, but you now have an idea of who I am and what inspires me.

Mum- Kini was created with you in mind.
